In-office & Online Therapy
I provide individual counseling for adults and adolescents of all backgrounds and genders.
Life is complex, people are complex. People are always more than what they seem. We all have pain, and it is all valid, no matter where it comes from. Everyone deserves to be seen, deserves to be heard...everyone deserves to truly experience feeling like they matter, because everyone does matter, individually. Their experience matters. I also believe no one is beyond healing. No matter where the journey takes us or how long it takes.
I believe healing is possible.
How does therapy with me work?
Have you ever wondered why you react the way you do? Have you ever said or done something and been confused by your response later? Our reactions are something we learn over time out of necessity and adaptation. At some point in your life you learned it was useful to engage with your environment using a variety of strategies to help you feel loved, accepted, and valued and to protect you from feeling unlovable, not good enough, and alone.
The challenge is that most strategies we engage, particularly strategies we use to keep ourselves emotionally safe, also have unintended negative consequences. These consequences create both internal and external distress. This kind of internal conflict can lead us to hate parts of ourselves, to feel ashamed, unworthy and never enough. We feel stuck, hopeless and misunderstood when strategies that were once useful and adaptive no longer function the way they once did.
When we can turn toward these parts of ourselves rather than away, we can gain insight into the intended function of our ways of being, identify where and why our attempts for connection often fall short or even create distance, and heal the vulnerable aspects of ourselves that necessitate continuing to engage coping strategies and protective responses that no longer serve us. The kind of deep healing that comes from this way of working with our internal system helps to create lasting change that is not driven by fear and a desire to maintain control, but from a place of inner clarity and self confidence. When we are able to release the constraints operating inside, we find that our perspective of external constraints shifts also. This allows us to take a leadership role in our own lives and experience the freedom of choice rather than being governed by chaotic internal relationships.
